Three Things in Mind for This Season

Well Y'all, a new season is underway here at Ballet Magnificat and I can't believe I am entering into my ninth season with them! I am so thankful!

Looking back and reflecting, I think that my life would prove it to be true that Ballet Magnificat really is like a greenhouse! For those of you who may never have heard Ballet Magnificat referred to as a greenhouse before and are wondering what I am talking about, let me explain. These past years, Ballet Magnificat has been for me a safe place, a set-apart-from-the-world environment where hearts and minds are protected and climate is controlled in a spiritual sense by the Son ruling and reigning over it, cultivating maturity and promoting growth in the spiritually hungry and like-minded people comprising the ministry, who came together not only because of a shared passion for dance but also because of the common desire to see the Lord glorified, that after some time spent together at Bmag start resembling more than ever before, "strong, healthy, beautiful seedbearing flowers and plants", just like that which you would find growing within the special shelter of a greenhouse.

For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. ~Isaiah 55:12

I owe a lot of credit to Ballet Magnificat, God's chosen vessel used, for making me into all that I am today. I would have never guessed that this modest little ballet company in Jackson, Mississippi would have impacted my life so greatly! I have matured so much over the past couple years (nearly a decade!) here at Ballet Magnificat, both technically as a dancer and spiritually as a Christ follower, and I am beyond excited to see what more the Lord has for me in this upcoming season. Bring it on!

A couple of things I am certain of about this upcoming season are the things that the Lord has revealed to me about how He desires me to live out the next 12 months of my contracted time with Ballet Magnificat. Today I thought I would share a couple of those things with you! Maybe you will find Him nudging you to adopt some of these things too.

#1 Living to Improve not Impress. A lesson I will never stop having to relearn is that living to people-please gets me nowhere! Two Bible verses that come to mind on this topic are Galatians 1:10 and 2 Timothy 2:4. Knowing that people-pleasing leaves me high and dry every time, I haven't the slightest idea as to why I always relapse into it!? Perhaps it is the way I am wired, but I also suppose that the way the world operates, offering more incentives to those who people-please than those who desire to God-please, doesn't help and is distracting. But thankful to say, I've recently been given a fresh reassurance from the Lord that pleasing God over people-pleasing is the way to go! I've been reminded that pursuing excellency and improvement for God's Glory and for the sheer enjoyment of it in anything I do, is so much better than striving and agonizing over trying to meet the sometimes unrealistic standards of insatiable mere human beings, that doesn't amount to anything but empty accolades and vain short-lasting praise anyway.

#2 Resting in the Lord. Formerly, I was spending a good portion of my energy seeking to refresh and enhance my life- physically and mentally, with physical solutions, BUT what I have come to learn is that in order to obtain any kind of rest and refreshment, whether it be for mind, body, or soul, it can only be fully achieved by resting in the Lord. Two verses that come to mind pertaining to this topic are 1 Timothy 4:8 and Matthew 11:28-30. I've learned that I need to be careful not to seek the actual thing of "rest" more than I seek after God and that even though not all situations may seem conducive for resting, rest WILL come when I seek him; practically doing so through prayer and His Word.

#3 Living Life Well. Lately, I've been thinking a lot about life, death, eternity, and salvation. I've been thinking about people, some I know, that find themselves on their deathbeds without a choice to live due to serious illness, maybe because of some freak accident, or considering also those being physically persecuted for their faith in other countries, and my heart is saddened. Then, especially on the heels of our summer workshop working with the children of this up and coming generation so quick to entertain ideas of suicide, I think about people who have the free choice to live, but then go and give it up, and my heart is saddened further. Then I think about people like ME (sometimes) who go on living life half asleep, complacently, or in longlasting discontentment and I've been MAJORLY convicted about it. God has been teaching me just how precious of a gift life is, for the believer and unbeliever alike, and I want to live it well! Sure undergoing dreadfully difficult times is apart of the package of life, but life also offers us good times, sweet moments of blissful elation that we wouldn't trade for the world, wouldn't you say?

My mind really gets blown away pondering on all what Christ went through to accomplish for me, for his children, for believers, to secure and ensure for us that we might have nothing BUT good times to come, for all of eternity! What kind of amazing future is that? What kind of love?! So with this precious life I've been given here on earth, and with the promise of a heavenly future, I want to make sure I live this life solely for the one who gave it to me and to be thankful; to live out my calling on earth well which is so much more than just what I do, but is also about what goes on in my heart and my mind, you know what I mean? Some bible verses that come to mind when reflecting on this topic are 2 Peter 1:3-11 and 2 Corinthians 5:14-15.

Feeling Down and Out- Part 2

Hello Friends, In the previous blog entry, I shared with you five possible solutions for overcoming spells of sadness. To recap they were:
  1. Identify the source of your emotion
  2. Fight
  3. Stand firm
  4. Repentance
  5. Seek Truth

Today I would like to add a 6th point!

6. Taking the Focus off Yourself!
Let me start off by asking: What's on the "throne of my heart" when you find yourself struggling with sadness? Even as believers, when the enemy and his agents of insecurity, doubt, fear, frustration, and confusion try to shake us up, it is hard not to become self-centered. It is a good opportunity to check and see if you have put yourself on the "throne of your heart" where God should rightfully be. I know for myself, when this happens I kind of get a tunnel vision on myself, especially when I have problems. I then tend to draw away from people I love/people that love me, as well as even God.

Other times, in an effort to preserve face, in my own strength, I will try turning my frown upside down by altogether ignoring the feelings and emotions plaguing me. I will try the "fake it till you make it" method, and pretend I'm okay. I'll even attempt focusing on others instead of myself which may work for a period of time, but what I've come to discover is that it is not until I go to the root of the problem in my heart, of putting my own concerns above and before all things and not until I remove myself from the "throne of my heart" and allow God to take up residence there again, that I am able to truly heal, be restored and comforted. We need to be turning to God's Word and seeking him and his will, continuing in worship to him even, when we are in times of need. Actually, at all times, setting aside corrupt motives and pride which only produces skewed perceptions of ourselves.

This is then when the repentance comes in. Asking my friends for forgiveness is necessary if my sour attitude has caused me to mistreat them. To God, repentance is in order for allowing something to get so important to me that it starts ruling my heart, mind, and emotions, causing me to react irrationally when I have such an amazing God who is in control. Instead of succumbing to the pouty depressed state I would so often formerly retreat too, I need to put my hope and trust in God when difficulty strikes. The one thing I pray you take away from this blog post is this:
Usually, the thing that is on the throne of your heart is usually the thing that dictates and controls your emotions.

Thanks for stopping by!
A less fluffy blog post; I guess it's tough love, but thanks for reading.
I hope it has left you feeling challenged.

Feeling Down and Out- Part 1

So I've been a little overwhelmed with feelings of sadness and discouragement lately. It happens to the best of us...

It does the world no good for one to spend their whole day wallowing in misery, waiting for friends to join in on the pity party, yet that is the place where this occupied optimist has found herself operating the past couple days, and repentance over it is in order; acknowledgment of it, repentance, and an apology.

Yes, we all go through seasons of discouragement, sadness, frustration, maybe grieve. Am I right? Surely I'm not the only one! Life is hard, especially the times when we undergo circumstances that don't seem fair, or that test our comfort! I would have to say there are a number of things on my plate right now that have been provoking my pouty-ness (unimportant things really...), some of those things being: My comfort being tested with having relocated to a new home recently, stress resulting from this month's overly scheduled calendar and long to-do list hovering over me, not to mention the typical nagging frustrations that can come with being a ballet dancer. Sometimes dealing on a daily basis with trying to perfect my very less than perfect technique can become more than I can bear, or at those are my sentiments on the days when I get too introspective. If you are a dancer you know what I am talking about, but I guess even non-dancers can struggle with perfectionism too!

Today on The Occupied Optimist, In Part 1 of the blog topic "Feeling Down and Out", I wanted to take some time to discuss with you what I think are five possible solutions for overcoming spells of sadness. Correlating scriptures are included. This list is by no means exhaustive so please share with us in the comment section down below what ways you like to go about soothing sadness when it comes.

#1 Identify the source of the emotion. A lot of times when sadness or other heavy emotions overtake us, our minds can get numb making it hard to think reasonably about anything! But I believe if we can get to a place of quieting our minds and emotions, it is possible to decipher the source of our emotions. Sometimes talking things out with a friend or journaling can help with this. Identifying the source of our strife and cognitively working through our emotions can be beneficial in seeing our situation in the proper perspective. Prayer is also essential in this process, asking the Lord for his wisdom and understanding, as well as asking the Lord for peace in the times when our feelings and emotions seem the most indecipherable and wisdom and understanding are not revealed. Sometimes I think a sole reason why the Lord allows us to undergo moments of sadness is for the very reason that He uses them to grow us and teach us to rely fully on Him and His love drawing us closer to Himself.

Psalm 26:2 2 Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind;

Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

Jeremiah 33:3 "Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known."

Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

1 Peter 1:13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

Philippians 4:4-9 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Romans 8:6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

Proverbs 14:30 A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

#2 Fight. The enemy coming up against us can sometimes be the underlying cause of our troubles which calls for spiritual warfare. Another reason I think the Lord allows us to undergo these spiritual battles is because 1.) He uses these battles to build our character and resilience and 2.) His greatness is revealed through them because He is on our side and always reigns victorious over the enemy.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

Ephesians 5:10-12 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
1 Corinthians 15:55-57 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

#3 Stand Firm. Many times in the word of God we are called to stand firm amidst our trials. In Scripture, we find many cases of people standing firm including Jesus Christ, our greatest example, who is not unable to relate to our hardships.

Exodus 14:13-14 And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today.
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
1 Corinthians 10:12 Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.
Isaiah 7:9  If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.
Luke 21:19 Stand firm, and you will win life.
1Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
1Corinthians 16:13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.
2Corinthians 1:21 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ.
Galatians 5:1 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

#4 Repentance. Sometimes, but not always, we may find the source of our emotion stems from hidden, unconfessed sin which takes the power of the Holy Spirit and light of the gospel to expose. Though sin can be strong enough to debilitate and hold us in bondage, it is not more powerful than the forgiveness and freedom the Lord has to offer us when we surrender our sins to him, confess, and repent of them.

All of Psalm 32 !
Acts 11:18  God has granted repentance that leads to life.
Matthew 3:8 Bear fruit in keeping with repentance.
Isaiah 30:15 In repentance and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.
Revelation 3:19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.
Luke 13:3 unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.
2 Corinthians 7:9-10 As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us. For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.
Ezekiel 18:32 For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live.
Lamentations 3:40 Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord!
Hosea 6:1 Come, let us return to the Lord; for he has torn us, that he may heal us; he has struck us down, and he will bind us up.

#5 Seek Truth. I can't think of a more better way to lighten a heavy heart than to fill up the mind with truth from God's Word, for those that believe it. The Bible is full of the life-giving promises of God that are sure to turn any frown upside down. Reading the Word of God helps us maintain eternal perspective in the midst of hardships and difficulties and has the power to extinguish fear and anxieties. Scripture can also encourage our hearts as we read about the one, Jesus Christ,  who "is not unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet he did not sin" (Hebrews 4:15) which is very comforting to think about and with the peaceable example of Jesus Christ we can learn how to properly treat other people involved in our situation with the love, mercy, and grace we read about in the Bible.

John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
Colossians 3:1-2 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
Jeremiah 15:16 Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts.
Psalm 19:7-11 The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
Psalm 119:130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Proverbs 30:5-6 Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

Psalm 119:9-11 How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

John 17:17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Hebrew 12:14-15 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

There is a time to weep and a time to laugh - Ecclesiastes 3:4

And just to clarify, I'm not saying it is wrong to ever undergo times of sadness, discouragement and/or grief. These are actually quite natural emotions to experience as human beings, especially if it is because of loss. Even Jesus wept, the shortest verse in the bible,

Jesus Wept. - John 11:35

The thing is, as believers we are not meant to stay in that place and Jesus gives us himself as a way of coping.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. - Matthew 11:28-30

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. -1 Peter 5:7

...and as I have matured through this journey of life and in my walk with the Lord, I must share with you what has become my MOST FAVORITE scripture for turning to for encouragement when times get rough from Romans 12:12:

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

My 2018 Workshop Experience in Snapshots

Hello World Wide Web!  How was your summer? If it was anything like mine, then it just flew by! I haven't even had the chance to tell you about it until now! I had the grandest time this past month over at Belhaven University helping run Ballet Magnificat's 2018 Summer Dance Intensive (SDI). Our summer dance intensives give students the special opportunity to take dance classes every day from Ballet Magnificat staff and company members such as myself. Company members also get to mentor them, lead them in times of worship in the mornings, and Bible study in the evenings. In the dorms, I was given a group of 12 girls to be in charge of and responsible for. We had ourselves lots of fun and I would tell you "I had the best group EVER!" if you were to ask! 😏

I will share some pictures from this past month down below, but for live updates and more, I suggest you follow me on Instagram at @oqpiedoptimist, and subscribe to my newsletter ( I haven't sent one out in a while though, hah) so you never miss a beat!

My group of girls represented the country of Puerto Rico during the conditioning Olympics! Look at what a lovely flag they made!

More sweet faces I got to work with this summer...
A student from my variations class

Wow! The Lord did so much over the course of this years SDI. I don't think I will ever forget it! And it is so much more than just the dancing. One of my favorite things about helping run Ballet Magnificat's SDI is that with all the time and energy that is spent investing in the students, it always surprises me how much I find the Lord investing in and teaching me! Just when I thought the students were the only ones on the receiving end, I realize that I too have learned and grown so much through all of the pouring out!

With all the wonderful memories behind us and a new season approaching, we will not forget the Lord's faithfulness and all that he has accomplished in us. There was enough transformation going on in all of us, students and staff alike, this summer and I want us to be reminded that we are never done transforming, so long as we find ourselves on this earth. Summer may be over, but I think transformation has only just begun!
But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. ~2 Corinthians 3:16-18

Mountain Tops and Valleys

Why hello my dear readers!  Do you miss me? It has been quite some time since you've heard from me, for a number of reasons I will explain to you in a moment. Please bear with me as the first blog posts I write after hiatus are always the most difficult for me to get out. I mean, it has been so long. It is hard to figure out where to start, not to mention that I feel "constipated" creativity-wise having not been able to exercise expressing myself through writing here at The Occupied Optimist for a while now. I have just been SO busy!

The last thing I remember sharing about with you was the trip that I took to Israel with Ballet Magnificat Alpha in February. And now it is May; Summer is right around the corner! I guess time flies when you are having fun. One thing I remember about that last entry I wrote is that Israel had left me on a "spiritual high", a "mountaintop" so to speak. Lord knows... I didn't stay up there though! One of the best ways I can think to describe this past semester to you is by sharing that it has been full of "mountaintops" and "valleys".

What I would like to do with today's blog post is to go through each month with you, blow by blow, recalling all that has happened this past year so far because it is good for me to remember, and perhaps for you just entertaining. Some of it will be a recap. Things I've covered in previous blog posts will be touched on again, but with the more recent months, never-before-seen pictures and stories will be featured to get you all caught up. Take note of the mountaintops and valleys. Maybe this entry will help you to recognize the mountaintops and valleys in your own life! We all have them. I am just glad that the best views come after the hardest climbs!

January-   Valley.

Happy housemates having random "Snow Days" off work in Mississippi!

  • January was not a bad month, just a slow month. The Alpha company did not have any bookings that month. It was all about hashing through choreography and getting back into shape after the holidays (when we didn't have snow days!) preparing ourselves for the coming month for our trip to Israel.

February-   Mountaintop  for  sure !

The Ballet Magnificat Alpha company in Israel striking a pose looking East.

March-   Valley.

A post shared by Lillian Marie Ortiz (@oqpiedoptimist) on

  • Even though now it is hard for me to remember that March even existed, when I think about it hard enough I remember that, in the moment, March seemed like such another sloooow month. Our performance bookings that month were next-to-none. We only had one run-out to Kentucky the first weekend in March which means that the remainder of the month was spent at our home base in Jackson, MS having nothing better to do but rehearse over and over and over again. Sure, I bet we probably needed the rehearsal, but it is these times when we have hardly any performances and are stuck at home repetitively rehearsing that I start to get "cabin fever".
The times when performances are few are the times I somehow become prone to forgetting the reason why I love doing what I do. I know that there is a reason for every season under the sun, and SOMETIMES the seasons that we don't tour very much are my favorite (I get a chance to go to church consistently and get involved in the community!), But other times I get too inside my head with all so much time to think! Can you relate?
March was one of those "other times". I did a lot of writing that month- it's just that you didn't see it because it was all in my journal instead of on my blog. The optimist deep inside me (or maybe the Holy Spirit) reminds me that it is times like these when the Lord does the most sanctifying and I guess that makes it worth while.

April-   An Oh - so - Wonderful  Mountiantop !

  • Alas, we have arrived at April- a busy yet glorious month which had much more performance bookings than the last; enough reason to fill a performing artist of any kind, with much happiness!
The first day of April we were in Longwood, FL celebrating Easter, my most favorite holiday! We had the priviledge of working with our brothers and sisters in Christ from Northland Church who put on a spectacular production celebrating Jesus, four times that weekend!

We had the sweetest, most endearing host families during our stay in Longwood!

They introduced us to Jeremiah's Italian Ice. This franchise is a must-stop, sweet-spot
I highly recommend you visit if you are ever in the Central, South Florida area!

Meridian MS, was where our next performance booking was, but I have to say my favorite performance of the month, and I can even easily say of the whole year, was the performance we had in Lancaster, PA my hometown!

Towards the end of the month we revisited FL, stopping in Orange Park for some dance workshops and a performance that our exceptionally wonderful sponsor and friend Lisa, and the Mercy Steps School of Dance set up for us. To my delight, I got to be hosted by some good ole' friends I made last time I was in Orange Park, FL with the company.

Such sweet sweet family and friends!

We had such a great time in Orange Park!

A midst all the performing, The Alpha company made time to have an "Alpha Retreat" in which we gathered in the home of our Artist Director and spent the work day bonding, team building, praying, eatting and being encouraged.

nom, nom, nom!

Gathering around the food!

Something else exciting that happened in  the month of April was that business began to pick up for Lilly's Creations with the launch of my new ballet skirt designs! Please check them out if this sort of thing interests you! 😊

...The one thing that put a damper on things this month was that the closing of my house by ballet mag leadership was made official, which meant that I and my housemates would be having to pick up and move out of it in the next month, a source of major stress for me in lastest weeks but the Lord always carries us through, doesn't He.

May-  I  suppose  this  month  being  a Valley  would  make  sense...

  • Being that last month was the end of the Ballet Magnificat Alpha tour season, the beginning of this month, regarding the Alpha companies work, revolved all around helping the Ballet Magnificat School of the Art's department put on their end of the year recitals. Some of us worked backstage and others of us worked front of house. The students ended up all doing a wonderful job with their dances.
In recent days, the Alpha company's energies had also been spent on doing some fundraising. This year we decided to sell roses at the student recitals and it was a hit! We are no florists, but it sure was such a fun process learning how to prepare a bouquet! Thanks to all of you that supported us through a purchase of one of our bouquets!

Arranging bouquets after class. I guess you could say we like to multitask by "stretching" at the same time. 😆

Teamwork!

Beautiful bouquets!

Outside of work, stress levels have been high with having to move out of my home of 8 years and trying to head up organizing the logistics of it between my five other housemates, a growing process for sure!

Though the process hard, God has been evidencing his provision to us in so many ways which has been encouraging. Pictured here is the humongous vehicle we used to transport all our stuff, lent to us by a kind couple from my housemate's church.

Abbey and Sam help us. We try to keep things fun.

I never had to move a refrigerator before but I guess there is a first time for everything! God also provided us with the pickup truck pictured here, a specialized appliance dolly, and five men for helping us get this mission accomplished. Thank you Lord!

Driving from house to house, The Lord also allowed me to get my first ever tire blow out. Look at me "Adulting" all over the place! AAA came to my rescue!

Yes, I've been a busy stressed out girl. I wish I could take the "too blessed to be stressed" saying to heart... but the struggle has been real. To cope with the stress I make things! 😊 Which is another reason why I have been too busy for blogging. I don't know if that is normal but it sure does help- making stuff like this:

(Skirts!)

(Towel Toppers!)

(Pants!)

(Headbands!)

(Greeting Cards!)

So that pretty much sums up what my life has been like the past couple months. I have finally settled into my new place across town and though it's going to be a bit of an adjustment, adapting to my new neighborhood and environment, change is good- a theme I often harp on about here at The Occupied Optimist. I am on a two-week summer break now, so hopefully I will find good rest for myself physically and spiritually. As life slows down again you may be happy to hear that I intend on returning back to my normally scheduled rhythm of blog posting, but I hope you feel all caught up with this blog post, feeling as though you didn't miss a beat, because you really didn't miss much.
Thanks so much for reading!
I have missed you!

I'd love to hear about what mountains and valley's the Lord has taken you through too!?
