A Sensational Amateur-Friendly Holiday Recipe

-     Quick .   Easy .   Delicious .  Flavorful .  Colorful .  Healthy .  -

I found this recipe for the Butternut Squash Braid one evening when I lost myself surfing videos on Youtube. The recipe is presented in a 'snack-sized' video clip that I have included below. The well-known people of 'Tasty' are the ones responsible for this recipe. If you haven't heard of 'Tasty' maybe you've been living under a rock. (Just joking.) 'Tasty' is the brand who's cooking video clips have taken over social media by storm. They are known for producing short 1 to 2 minute video clips that show you in hyper speed how to prepare, cook, and/or bake various, delicious looking, easy to make recipes. I wouldn't be surprised if you have scrolled past some of their video clips on your Facebook or Pinterest page before. I like their video clips because they are easy to follow and not lengthy, but still provide great visual references for every single step. I always feel like I know what I am doing in the kitchen when I am following a 'Tasty' video. They make a novice cook (like myself), feel equipped and ready to conquer ANYTHING! My one criticism is that, because the video clips are so fast paced, it can be hard to catch all the important details concerning measurements, ingredients, and cook times without constantly pressing pause or rewinding. With that said, there isn't one 'Tasty' recipe I've tried that I don't like so I hope you try and enjoy the one I am going to share with you today! This Butternut Squash Braid recipe is one of my favorites! Enjoy the video clip! I have included the cooking details in text as well for your convenience!

Butternut  Squash  Braid

Ingredients

  • 1 (16 ounce) bag of precut butternut squash
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 pound of italian sausage (I used ground beef instead and everybody LOVED it!)
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves minced or chopped finely
  • 2 sage leaves
  • 8 oz. of Baby Spinach
  • 1 and 1/2 cups of Italian cheese blend (I used parmesan)
  • Puff Pastry Dough Sheet (I found some by Pillsbury in the freezer section)
  • One egg beaten
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Preheat over to 400 degrees F/ 200 degrees C
  2. Heat a large sauté pan over medium-high heat and add olive oil.
  3. Add the meat, garlic, and onion and stir until cooked through.
  4. Add the sage and spinach and cook until spinach wilts then remove from heat.
  5. After the butternut squash is heated separately, combine it along with the cheese, with the sausage and spinach mix. Stir it all up quite well.
  6. Roll out puff pastry squares.
  7. As the video demonstrates, cut diagonal slits along each side of the center middle panel of the pastry square.
  8. fill the center panel with a reasonable amount of your created meat/butternut squash mixture.
  9. Wrap the mixture in snuggly by folding the side flaps of dough in and across, alternating each side, as the video demonstrates.
  10. Brush your braid down with egg wash.
  11. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.

Step 5 ^_^

Buen Porvecho!
