How to Incorporate Jesus Into Every Part of Your Day

 -  Challenge  Day  Four  .  Drinking  Water  .  Jesus  in  Everything  -

Has anyone else besides me noticed how the Bible uses SO many different metaphors, analogies, pictures if you will, to portray Jesus and the gospel? It really is astounding. All of the pictures are so relatable and if you really think about it, these pictures make it possible for us to meditate on him day and night just as the scriptures describe in Psalms 119 and in other places.

One. At Meal Times...

John 6: 32-33  “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

John 6:53-58 “Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

Deuteronomy 8:2-3 “Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. 3He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”

Two. When It's Time to Bathe...

Psalm 51 "Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin..."

Ezekiel 36:25-29 "I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God. I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will call for the grain and make it plentiful and will not bring famine upon you."

Three. When Drinking Water...

John 4:14 "but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

Four. When All Is Light and Bright Around...

Matthew 5:14 "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden."

John 8:12 "When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

2Corinthians 4:6 "For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”[fn] made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God's glory displayed in the face of Christ."

Five. In Times of Darkness...

John 12:46 "I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness."

Isaiah 60:1-3 “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn."

John 1:5 "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

Six. When Cleaning...

Revelations 22:14 "Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city."

Matthew 23:25-28 "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean. Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness."

Luke 11:24-26 "When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first."

Seven. On Sunny Days...

Malachi 4:2 "But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves."

Psalm 84:11 "For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless."

Isaiah 60:19-20 "The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more; the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your days of sorrow will end."

Ephesians 4:26 "In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry"

Eight. On Windy Days...

John 3:8 "The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

Nine. On Stormy Days...
Hebrews 6:19 "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure"

Luke 8:24 "The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we're going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm."

Psa 89:9 "You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them."

Ten. When You Go for That Run...
Luke 15:20 "So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him." --Let's not forget how the Father full of love, ran to meet us half way!

Let us remember all these things and be thankful!

"Oh, how I love your word! I meditate on it all day long."
Psalm 119:19

30- Day Challenge

  • My Daily Challenge: Drink more water

  • My Daily Prayer: "Sometimes I wonder if water was created solely to be used as a picture of the Lord himself, a good reminder for us as both are absolutely necessary for life. Father God today and for the rest of this month-long challenge and on to forever would you help me to better prioritize drinking water. I know I struggle to get enough which is unfortunate since I know water has so many wonderful health benefits. My hope is that drinking both H2O and 'Living Water' would become a daily habit of first nature, that I would do my part to stay spiritually and physically hydrated. Holy Spirit I ask for your help in this and for the fruit of the Spirit of discipline to become manifest in me for doing so.

    AMEN."

  • The Approach: My goal is to drink water at the top of the day, in the mornings, at every meal, and before I go to bed.

  • My Progress:
    • Meal Plan (continuing)
    • Regulating Sleeping pattern (continuing0)
    • Eating three meals a day (continuing)
